Felipe Mujica participates in the 32nd Bienal de São Paulo 2016

Titled ‘Incerteza viva’ translated as ‘Live uncertainly’, the Bienal will explore notions of uncertainty reflecting on current life conditions and the role contemporary art plays within that context. There will be around 90 artists participating, 54 of whom have been announced.

 

Founded in 1951, the Bienal de São Paulo is the second oldest biennial after the Venice Biennial which was founded in 1895. It was set up by the Italian-Brazilian industrialist Ciccillo Matarazzo (1898-1977) which is why it is held in the Ciccillo Matarazzo pavilion in the Parque do Ibirapuera which contains an exhibition space of 30,000 m2.

 

Felipe Mujica began his art education at the Universidad Católica de Chile and later co-founded the artist-run space Galería Chilena (1997 – 2005). In the 2000s, Mujica moved to New York City where he is currently based. His works have been exhibited internationally including solo shows at Museo Experimental El Eco, Mexico D.F.; Galerie Christinger De Mayo, Zürich; The Shop – Vitamin Creative Space, Beijing; Message Salon, Zürich; and Centro Cultural Matucana 100, Santiago.

 

The Bienal is curated by Jochen Volz, who has been the Head of Programme at the Serpentine Galleries in London since 2012 and also a curator at the Instituto Inhotim, Minas Gerais, since 2004.
